BALL DES SPORTS
"The Ball of Sports" is a charity event that has been held annually in Germany since 1970. It is organized by the German Sports Aid Foundation and aims to raise funds for sports-related charitable causes.
In 2017, the event took place in Wiesbaden and marked the 50th birthday of the foundation. "The Ball of Sports" was the top event of the ball season in Hesse and was also one of the most successful charitable sports events in Europe. The venue for the event, the Kurhaus, was located next to a large ball arena, and together they welcomed a crowd of 1,600 guests who were treated to a lineup of performances by prominent sports stars, Olympic champions, and celebrities from the entertainment and political realm. The main attraction within the hall was a 360-degree racetrack, which was constructed around the ball attendees and served as the stage for an unprecedented number of athletes participating in the show program.
For this project, I was brought on to the creative team as the assistant choreographer to Marvin A Smith. Our primary responsibility was to coordinate the live performances, which included overseeing the acts of over 100 athletes, a mix of Olympic, Paralympic, World Championship, and European Championship medalists. In addition to this, we were in charge of all creative aspects of the ball, from working with a select cast of dancers to coordinating light and music cues with the light and sound department and choreographing and rehearsing live performances with the dancers.
It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I was grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside Marvin and contribute to such a high-profile event.
